The fundamental principle of membership is an obligation to aid and assist fellow members in time of need. Like other Masonic related organizations, the Order of the Eastern Star uses emblems and symbolism to teach moral lessons we use as a guide to make our lives more useful, both to ourselves and to others.
The Order of Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values, but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work. A deep fraternal bond exists between its members.

NFL Partnership Extended for East-West Shrine Game

The NFL is partnering for a second year with the East-West Shrine Game to increase development opportunities for coaches and draft-eligible players.

The NFL will supply the coaching staffs for the two teams from among current league assistant coaches whose teams do not advance to the playoffs. The NFL will also provide the game officials for the contest, which features some of college footballs best prospects.

The 93rd annual East-West Shrine Game will kick off at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 20, from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and be televised live on NFL Network.

At the conclusion of the NFL regular season, teams will nominate deserving assistant coaches who will be reviewed by a panel that includes NFL Football Operations staff, East-West Shrine Game leadership and two members of the NFLs General Managers Advisory Committee. Once the head coaches are selected, each head coach will then fill his 12-person staff from among other NFL assistant coaches nominated by the clubs, a key job requirement for head coaches at every level of the sport.

Coaches nominated by NFL clubs must be active assistant coaches who display extraordinary teaching and communications skills, and are recognized for their integrity and commitment to excellence in the coaching profession. The coaches must be accomplished at developing and preparing players to compete in the NFL.

It is an honor for the East-West Shrine Game to partner with the NFL to promote opportunities for professional growth and development not only for our outstanding players, but also for the potential future generation of head coaches in the league, said HAROLD RICHARDSON, executive director of the East-West Shrine Game.

For more than 90 years, some of footballs greatest players and coaches have contributed to the tradition of the East-West Shrine Game, the nations first college all-star football game. Created by the Shriners in 1925, the game is driven by the desire to support Shriners Hospitals for Children in its mission to help children in need of expert medical care. Participating players make an annual visit to the local Shriners Hospital, visiting children and staff in an experience that they will truly never forget.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Photographs Selected for National Childrens Hospitals Exhibit

Two photographs taken at two different Shriners Hospitals for Children were selected for inclusion in the 2017 Childrens Hospitals Photo Exhibit, a national competition presented by HUGGIES® and administered by the Childrens Hospital Association (CHA). The judges selected A typical day in the clinic taken by John Sugden at the Shriners Hospital in Boston and Catalina undergoing testing in the motion analysis laboratory taken by Julia Serat at the Northern California Shriners Hospital. The CHA exhibit communicates the hope, compassion and resilience shared by the children and families served by childrens hospitals and the expert health care providers who deliver that specialized care. From healthy kids to children with rare and complex medical conditions, the exhibit celebrates childrens hospitals commitment to the health of all children. The two Shriners Hospitals for Children photographs were chosen from more than 180 photographs submitted by 40 childrens hospitals across the country by a distinguished panel of judges representing Parents magazine, The Exposure Group, National Geographic Kids, Positive Exposure, and the Childrens Hospitals Today editorial advisory group. Photographs were selected based on excellent composition and ability to depict what really makes childrens hospitals unique. The Childrens Hospitals Photo Exhibit will be on display to the general public the week of July 10, 2017 in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Building and in the foyer of the Rayburn House Building in Washington, D.C. July 17 and 18, 2017. In addition the exhibit will travel around the country for two years displaying at childrens hospitals and partnering organizations in support of a wide variety of outreach efforts and events. Visit the Childrens Hospital Association website to view the 2017 exhibit. Below is John Sugdens photo: A typical day in the clinic A typical day in the clinic

Spirit of Halloween Stores' Spirit of Children

Making Hospitals Less Scary
Spirit of Children is a program that brings fun and funding to hospitals at Halloween and all year long through support of Child Life at hospitals in local communities. Our mission is to make hospital stays less scary for kids and their families. The program started in 2006 with eleven hospitals in our own backyard with the belief that a great holiday should do great good. And it worked! Since that first Halloween party in 2006, we have raised more than $29 million in cash and merchandise donations and have partnered with over 130 childrens hospitals across the United States and Canada. Every dollar collected goes directly to the hospitals and local donations stay local.

Shriners Hospitals for ChildrenPhiladelphia along with 12 other Shriners Hospitals benefits from this amazing program. Keep Spirit Halloween in mind during your Halloween shopping season. Below is a coupon for 10% off - in addition, 10% will be donated to the Hospitals!

Kismet Clowns have been sharing their love with the children of this Babylon school for over ten years,
According to Magee the Clown, "It really is rewarding to see the pleasure in their eyes when they see a clown.
Even though they can't express their happiness. You just have too look into their eyes and see how they are
glowing with happiness. That is when we enjoy being a clown."

Kismet Shrine Scoliosis Screening Clinic at El Puente, Brooklyln NY

On November 19, 2011, a health screening clinic was held in the Williamsburg community of Brooklyn, NY. Shriners teamed up with a local community group, El Puente, who sponsored the well-attended event.

Kismet Shriners planned to hold a clinic this fall .We were asked by Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia to consider holding a Scoliosis Screening Clinic for inner city children. Because a clinic in this inner city area had not been held for many years we researched many venues and options. It was felt that because Mecca Shriners is a neighboring Shrine that is part of New York City, it would benefit the target audience to ask Mecca to join us. After going to the local politicians looking for a location we were told about a local organization that helps the local community with health issues, El Puente. We had numerous meetings to plan setup this clinic. We now have a working relationship with this large Spanish community and are now looked at as a resource in the area to help children. The Shriners booklets in English and Spanish are now part of there

Well, our Cigar Night couldn't have been better. OK, perhaps if the weather was a bit cooler... but otherwise it was perfect.
Some thirty Nobles, Brothers and Friends gathered to enjoy our Makers Mark Night which paired up Makers Mark cigars along with the Bourbon of the same name.
